Nude on Broadway

Oh! Calcutta! is an dirty theatrical revue consisting of sketches on sex-related topics. It debuted Off-Broadway in 1969, running for 1,314 performances. The show was controversial due to the fact that it featured extended scenes of full-frontal nudity, both male and female. The title is taken from a painting by Clovis Trouille, itself a pun on "O quel cul t'as!" French for "What an ass you have!". Sketches were written by such diverse talents as Samuel Beckett, John Lennon, Sam Shepard and Jules Feiffer. The original cast featured TV's Bill Macy (MAUDE) and Leon Russom (Willis Frame on ANOTHER WORLD) . A revival opened on Broadway in 1976 and closed in 1989 after 5,959 performances.
